While we let Ire eat sweets every now and then, it’s very important for her to eat healthy snacks that provides her with daily nutrients. Like a lot of kids, Ire gets hungry between meals so we provide healthy snacks that still appeals to her sweet taste buds. I also believe in balance, sometimes we give her candies and fruit crushers but I prefer offering fresh, unprocessed foods that gives her energy and a well balanced diet. Below are 12 of Ire’s favorite and easy snacks:

  1. Salad: I know this sounds boring but she actually really loves her greens. I also don’t believe in serving boring, tasteless foods so I add things that she loves inside her salads. Since Ire likes eating nuts and fruits I usually add apples, carrots, grapes and almonds to her salad. I also sometimes add cheese boiled egg and of course our fav Trader Joe’s Asian Style Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette
  2. Banana with Peanut: This is a combination that her daddy started giving to her and she loves it. I always feel happy when I see her eating this because I grew up eating this in Nigeria so it feels like Ire is partaking in decades long of tradition.
  3. Smoothie is Ire’s jam and I think it’s because she has been drinking it since she was 6-months old. For smoothie tips view my blog post here.
  4. My girl is obsessed with all things Yogurt, she asks for it every single day. I’ve changed the time she eats dinner now to 7pm instead of 8 because I no longer like the idea of her sleeping right after eating. She eats her dinner around 7 and takes yogurt right before bed or during the day.  Feel free to add nuts, granola and other things to your baby’s yogurt. I’ve tried that with Ire and it doesn’t work, she enjoys eating everything separately.
  5. Hard-Boiled Egg is something Ire has been eating since she was a baby. She sometimes goes through stages of eating and not eating the yoke but overall she loves it.
  6. Ire loves her some Popcorn. I was used to nervous to offer it to her because it’s a chocking hazard but she has never choked on it. We never serve it to her unsupervised.
  7. When it comes to Cheese, homegirl doesn’t discriminate!! Unless of course we are talking about cottage cheese, I’ve given her few times and it’s always a no. She eats Cheddar, Monterey, Mozzarella and many more. I serve her either string cheese or shredded and although she loves both, I think she prefer the shredded version.
  8.  Apple + Peanut Butter: she loves loves this!! If you have a baby I suggest you cutting off the back because it can be a chocking hazard.
  9. MultiGrain Crackers: I get it from Trader Joe’s and it’s so delicious!! Even me as a mother eats it all the time, especially with cheese- yummy!!
  10. Bread + Peanut Butter is such a classic staple for most kids. I use BrownBerry’s Whole Grains Oatnut Bread and Trader Joe’s crunchy peanut butter. The good news is that it’s super healthy and takes seconds to make!!
  11. Fruit bowls where you add all their favorite fruits, trust me this is a hit!!
  12. Carrots is Ire’s favorite vegetable so she is always excited to eat them. Sometimes she asked for carrots + grapes and I typically give her both
